Markéta, a J.S.D. candidate at Stanford Law School, is conducting research for a dissertation concerning cross-border enforcement of judgments in patent infringement cases. Before attending Stanford she worked for the government of the Czech Republic, where she specialized in European Union (“EU”) law, prepared national legislative changes required for the Czech Republic’s EU membership, and participated in negotiations in EU bodies. She also worked for the European Commission during a six-month internship in Luxembourg. Markéta’s interest in the intersection of private international law (conflict of laws) and IP was influenced by her professional experience as head of the EU Law Unit at the Czech Ministry of Justice, where she coordinated preparations for entry into the EU in the area of judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters; also, as a representative of the Czech Republic she participated in the EU Council’s IP Working Group during negotiations of the IP Enforcement Directive. Markéta holds a law degree (JUDr.) and a Ph.D. from the Law School of Charles University in Prague and a J.S.M. from Stanford Law School. She is a member of the New York Bar.
